History

Gold mining brought people through the El Cajon Valley as they hauled equipment and supplies between San Diego and Julian . In 1876, New Englander Amaziah Knox, nothing that many stopped overnight, opened a seven-room hotel.
Knox's Corner was the first commercial building and the hub for business for 70 years. The city incorporated in 1912.
In the 1950s, the population exploded and today, the city has one of the largest Iraqi-American populations in the country.
