    Imperial Beach

    History

    Imperial Beach was first developed in 1887 as a summer retreat for people from the Imperial Valley.


    The area was also a draw for the military, beginning in the early 1900s when a 10 th U.S. Cavalry troop was stationed nearby to quell conflicts along the border.


    The Navy came on board in the 1920s with a base southeast of Imperial Beach.The city incorporated in 1956.
