San Diego

San Diego is the birthplace of California's first mission and presidio, founded in 1769 by Friar Junipero Serra.

This foundation marked the beginning of a series of 21 missions along the California coast known as the "Camino Real". Mission San Diego de Alcalá, the first of these missions, is a historical and cultural landmark in the city.

This foundation is an important milestone in the history of California and in the history of Spanish missions in North America
