The Mexican city that borders San Diego to the south is Tijuana, in the state of Baja California. The border between San Diego and Tijuana is marked by several border crossing points, the best known and busiest being the San Ysidro border crossing, which connects San Diego with Tijuana. This border is one of the busiest in the world, with a constant flow of people and goods between the two countries.

History:

San Diego is the birthplace of California's first mission and presidio, founded in 1769 by Friar Junipero Serra. This foundation marked the beginning of a series of 21 missions along the California coast known as the "Camino Real". Mission San Diego de Alcalá, the first of these missions, is a historical and cultural landmark in the city. This foundation is an important milestone in the history of California and in the history of Spanish missions in North America.
