    After President Abraham Lincoln signed the Homestead Act in 1862, the first settler arrived in this high valley, which sits at an elevation of 1,312 feet.


    Two-acre-minimum properties and limited water access kept the valley rural and agricultural for most of its history.


    Casino and home development in recent years has brought wide roads, more traffic and new business to the unincorporated town.

    The Valley Center Stampede Rodeo & Memorial Festival is held annually in Memorial Day weekend.
