With which it borders ? 

East of La Mesa, you will find the mountains and hills that make up the eastern boundary of the city, which connect to the San Diego Mountains.

West of La Mesa, the city borders areas that extend into San Diego County, including Spring Valley and Lemon Grove.

North of La Mesa, it borders other municipalities and communities in San Diego County, such as El Cajon.

The city does not have a coastline as it is located inland, unlike Chula Vista.

It is important to note that La Mesa is known for its mountainous location and beautiful scenic views, in addition to its proximity to the coastal areas of San Diego.

History

In 1869, rancher Robert Allison bought thousands of acres in the region. He helped bring water and the railroad to the area, known as Allison Springs. The transformation to a residential community began in 1906 when developers began dividing lots. It became a moviemaking mecca in 1911, when pistol-packing producer Allan Dwan shot about 150 silent “flickers.” The community incorporated in 1912.

Landmarks:

Part of the city’s charm is its connection with the past, including two museums: the 1899 McKinney House, now the La Mesa Historical Society, and the 1894 La Mesa Train Depot. The city has kept its system of public stairways, known as the Secret Stairs, in the Mount Nebo/Windsor Hills neighborhood.
